What live betting is
Live betting, or in-play betting, means betting while the game is on. The price moves with the score, time left, injuries, fouls and money coming in. You are not betting into a fixed market: you are betting into an estimate that moves while you decide.
Every price can be read as a probability. With decimal odds, it is 1 ÷ odds. At +110 (2.10), the implied probability is 47.6%. At -250 (1.40), it rises to 71.4%. The price also tells you how much risk the sportsbook is pricing at that moment.
2 The replay
How odds move after a score
Take a made-up soccer game. Before it starts, Team A is +110 (2.10), the draw is +240 (3.40) and Team B is +260 (3.60). After Team A scores, the same market shows A at -250 (1.40), the draw at +320 (4.20) and B at +700 (8.00).
Implied probability 1 ÷ decimal odds
- 1 Before the game: A at +110 (2.10) is 47.6%, the draw at +240 (3.40) is 29.4%, B at +260 (3.60) is 27.8%.
- 2 After the score: A at -250 (1.40) is 71.4%, the draw at +320 (4.20) is 23.8%, B at +700 (8.00) is 12.5%.
- 3 The margin: the total rises from 104.8% to 107.7%. Everything above 100% is the sportsbook's margin.
Shorter odds don't make the bet any better. At -250 (1.40), Team A has to win more than 71.4% of the time for the bet to stop losing money on average.
3 The stat sheet
Acceptance delay and cash out
A live bet is not accepted at the exact moment you tap. If a key play happens during the delay, the market is suspended. If the odds move, the sportsbook can reject the bet or offer the new price.
Cash out adds another cost. You bet $100 on Team A at +110 (2.10), for a possible $210 return. After the score, A is -250 (1.40). At the displayed price, the bet is worth 100 × 2.10 ÷ 1.40 = $150.00.
- 1 Theoretical value: $150.00.
- 2 Offer with a 5% cut: $142.50, a $7.50 cost.
- 3 Offer with a 10% cut: $135.00, a $15.00 cost.
Live speed does not remove the math. It makes the math harder.
4 The scoreboard
Two common live-betting mistakes
Chasing losses. You stake $20, then double after every loss. After five losses, you have lost 20 + 40 + 80 + 160 + 320 = $620. The sixth stake would be $640. With a one-in-two chance on unrelated picks, five straight losses happen about once in 32 tries.
Betting too often. At -110 (1.91) with a one-in-two chance of winning, each dollar staked returns 0.5 × 1.91 = $0.955 on average. On 100 bets of $20, or $2,000 staked, the expected loss is $90.
The bankroll management guide covers stake size and bad runs.
The turning point
Live betting needs decision time
A good live bet is never one you force because a price is flashing. It means waiting for the right market, then passing if the price moved too far.
In a challenge, that time matters. A tight calendar pushes you to find spots every day. With no time limit, the target stays the same, but you choose when to enter the market.

In a challenge, read the live rules
A challenge's rules apply to live picks as to any other pick: stake size, loss limits, required volume and allowed pick types. Bankroll U caps live-pick risk at 5% of initial account size, versus 10% pregame. Playvo charges 10% of the pick to cash out early. Fan Funded's home page mock-up shows a live pick.
The standings below compare challenges using the site's model; they do not simulate live betting or cash out. The calculation uses the steady profile.

How we calculate
- Three profiles: 54% of bets won and 2 bets a day; 55% and 3; 57% and 4.
- Each operator is modeled at the stake that gives it the best chance, within its allowed range.
- Time-limited challenge: the number of bets is capped by the profile's pace.
- Several phases: the chances multiply.
- Not simulated: daily loss limits, minimum number of bets, activity targets, consistency rules.
- Bankroll U is taken at its Combine, the lowest real cost among the offers considered for this matchup, on the steady profile. Five levels: not ranked (higher real cost on the steady profile).
- Bankroll U: Combine only, which opens the Rookie level at 10% of profits.
- Fan Funded is taken at its 3 Step, the lowest real cost among the offers considered for this matchup, on the steady profile. 2 Step: not ranked (higher real cost on the steady profile). Blitz: not ranked (too close to call: the gap depends on the exchange rate).
- GetBet Funded: price shown with the operator's 20% discount, no published end date.
- Prime Sports Funded price with code PROMO25.
- Amounts are shown in each operator's own currency, with no conversion. Operators are not ranked across currencies.
- The math holds for these profiles, not for every bettor.
Frequently asked questions
What is live betting?
Live betting, also called in-play betting, means placing a bet while the game is on. The sportsbook keeps repricing its odds. In our example, Team A moves from +110 (2.10) to -250 (1.40) after a score, or from 47.6% to 71.4% implied probability.
Why is a live bet rejected?
A live bet is not accepted the instant you tap. The market can be suspended after a play, and the odds can move during the acceptance delay. The sportsbook then rejects the bet or offers the new price.
What does cash out cost?
It costs the gap between the bet's value and the sportsbook's offer. A $100 bet at +110 (2.10) is worth $150.00 once the odds fall to -250 (1.40). If the sportsbook keeps 5%, the offer is $142.50, or $7.50 less.
Is live betting more expensive than pregame betting?
Often, yes. In our example, the implied probabilities add up to 104.8% before the game and 107.7% after the score. The excess over 100% is the sportsbook's margin.
Can you bet live in a prop firm challenge?
It depends on the operator. Bankroll U lists live picks and caps their risk at 5% of the initial account size. Playvo lists live props and charges 10% of the pick to cash out early. Fan Funded's home page mock-up shows a live pick.
