Over/under betting: total, half-point and margin
An over/under is a bet on the combined score. The line sets the number, and the price sets the win rate you must beat.

1 Game time
An over/under bet plays the total
The total is the points, goals or runs scored by both teams combined. The sportsbook posts a line, such as 47.5 points. You take the over or the under.
The winner does not matter. A 27-24 game totals 51, so over 47.5 wins. A 24-20 game totals 44, so under 47.5 wins.
- 1 $110 on over 47.5 at -110 (1.91): final score 27-24, $100 profit.
- 2 Same bet: final score 24-20, 44 total points, the $110 stake loses.
2 The box score
The half-point removes the push
At 47.5, the final total finishes over or under. It cannot land exactly on the line. At a whole number such as 47, a final total of 47 is a push: nobody wins, and the stake comes back.
The half-point makes the market binary. A whole-number line adds a third result.
3 The stat sheet
The price sets the break-even line
Every price can be turned into an implied probability. In decimal odds, the formula is simple: probability = 1 ÷ odds.
Break-even rate Probability = 1 ÷ decimal odds
- 1 At -110 (1.91): 1 ÷ 1.91 = 52.4%.
- 2 Both sides at -110: 2 × 110 ÷ 210 = 104.8%.
- 3 The margin: the points above 100% carry the sportsbook's margin.
The line says how many points you need. The price says how often you must be right.
4 The scoreboard
When the line moves, the price follows
Lower the line and the over becomes easier, so it pays less. Raise the line and the over needs more points, so it pays more.
- Over 41.5. Needs 42 points. Easier over, lower payout.
- Over 47.5. Main total in the example. Needs 48 points.
- Over 53.5. Needs 54 points. Harder over, higher payout.
The best bet is not the biggest payout. It is the line whose real hit rate exceeds the break-even rate implied by the odds.
Halftime
A total needs a long sample
You can read one total well and still lose that game. Answering that question takes a sample: does your hit rate beat the probability built into the price?
That check needs volume. Prime Sports Funded keeps one step and puts no time limit on the evaluation.

In a challenge, read the rule before the market
A total, a moneyline, a spread or a prop does not tell you whether a challenge is easier to pass. Read the stake range, required number of bets, loss limits and time available.
The standings below do not rank operators by market type. They count the real cost of a funded account: challenge price divided by chance of passing, on the steady profile.
Totals and hedging rules
Reviews checked on October 3 and 4, 2026: Bankroll U and Playvo list totals. Bankroll U caps risk per event at 20% of the initial bankroll. Playvo allows one pick per market in a game, and at most two picks on the same game.
Betting both sides of a total is hedging. GetBet Funded prohibits hedging; MySportsFunding prohibits hedging and opposite positions. Neither names totals in the reviewed rules. Playvo's one-pick-per-market rule also rules out betting both sides of the same total.

How we calculate
- Three profiles: 54% of bets won and 2 bets a day; 55% and 3; 57% and 4.
- Each operator is modeled at the stake that gives it the best chance, within its allowed range.
- Time-limited challenge: the number of bets is capped by the profile's pace.
- Several phases: the chances multiply.
- Not simulated: daily loss limits, minimum number of bets, activity targets, consistency rules.
- Bankroll U is taken at its Combine, the lowest real cost among the offers considered for this matchup, on the steady profile. Five levels: not ranked (higher real cost on the steady profile).
- Bankroll U: Combine only, which opens the Rookie level at 10% of profits.
- Fan Funded is taken at its 3 Step, the lowest real cost among the offers considered for this matchup, on the steady profile. 2 Step: not ranked (higher real cost on the steady profile). Blitz: not ranked (too close to call: the gap depends on the exchange rate).
- GetBet Funded: price shown with the operator's 20% discount, no published end date.
- Prime Sports Funded price with code PROMO25.
- Amounts are shown in each operator's own currency, with no conversion. Operators are not ranked across currencies.
- The math holds for these profiles, not for every bettor.
Frequently asked questions
What does over/under mean in betting?
It is a bet on the combined score of both teams. The sportsbook sets a line, such as 47.5 points. Over wins above the line, under wins below it. Which team wins the game does not matter.
How does over/under betting work?
At -110 (1.91), a $110 stake on over 47.5 wins $100 if the game ends with 48 points or more. It loses if the game ends with 47 points or fewer.
Why do totals end in .5?
A half-point stops the final total from landing exactly on the line. On a whole-number line such as 47, a final total of 47 is a push and the stake comes back.
What does over 2.5 goals mean?
It is a soccer total. Over 2.5 goals wins if the game ends with three goals or more. Under 2.5 goals wins with two goals or fewer.
What win rate do you need at -110?
You need more than 52.4%. A -110 price is about 1.91 in decimal odds, and 1 ÷ 1.91 = 52.4%. Below that, the price beats you over time.
